Digital Rights Management
DRM (Digital Rights Management) provides the most secure means for distribution of entertainment and corporate content. DRM provides security for digital content files so that the files can not be consumed (played or burned to CD) without complying with licensing rules set by the content copyright owner(s). Darris Hoskins delivers secure content distribution platforms utilizing DRM software with various licensing options – content be purchased or it can be obtained for free if the content is specified as ad supported or tethered for tracking purposes, (other DRM rules include territory restrictions, expiration dates, variable pricing and device output options: MP3 Players, CD players. Our platforms utilize the most secure, highest bit-rate encryption available on the market.
Digital Media Protection and Tracking
Before a consumer receives or downloads any content distributed through our platforms, we make certain to protect the content from piracy or theft. If a consumer decides to share the content with someone else via the Internet or offline, we continue to protect the content with DRM software. Once a consumer acquires specific content, Darris Hoskins tracks the content and everyone it is shared with maintains an ongoing marketing program with that consumer – tracking and serving their further needs and wants for further content and services.
The DRM process for our distributed content is simple:
A consumer downloads content/media and the content “phones home” to our license service alerting Darris Hoskins that consumer wants to open the content up and play it.
- A browser window opens on the consumer’s computer desktop asking them to register and/or pay to consume the content. The consumer is given the option to preview the content.
- The consumer registers for the content.
- The content use is registered by Darris Hoskins, and
- The consumer gets to acquire the content.
Commerce Enabled DRM
DRM not only protects our distributed content, but it also enables several economic models. Consequently, content owners have several commercial options to serve their fans and consumers media. Darris Hoskins enables the greatest flexibility possible in the distribution of digital files to meet consumers’ needs and therefore allow content owners to succeed.
The most often used commercial models are:
Digital Media Preview-and-Purchase Model
A content owner wants to offer consumers the option to preview songs or a movie before buying the content. In this model, a consumer is allowed to preview the media for a predetermine period of time before acquiring the content. If the consumer decides they want the content, the consumer must then register or pay for the content. The content owner is able to promote their music or films on the Internet while cutting down on marketing costs by strengthening their direct marketing capabilities.
Promotional Model
The Promotional Model allows content owners to give away FREE samples of content, while harvesting information such as email, address, age, gender, and location about consumers. In this model, to access FREE content a consumer must answer a series of questions that content owners have defined. Only after the consumer has entered the information will the consumer be given free access to the content.
Pay-Per-View Movies, Television Shows and Videos
A content owner creates a digital cinematic experience for consumers similar to cable or satellite pay-per-view. In this model a consumer downloads a file via various digital media channels, provides registration information and a credit card, and rents/licenses a movie-show-video to play on his PC and/or portable device.
Subscription Model
In the subscription model, for a specified frequency of time, say - $10 a month, a consumer is allowed unlimited access to a large collection of media from a specific content owner. Consequently, the consumer downloads a number of pieces of media and plays them as often they want. Darris Hoskins allows content owner(s) to create a license model with start and end dates. For each piece of media the consumer selects, a license that expires on the last period of the designated time is pre-delivered to them. After the expiration date, the consumer can no longer play the content because the license has expired. The consumer is automatically prompted to pay the subscription fee after which the consumer is issued new license(s) that expire at the end of pre-designated period.
One File, Different Licenses Model
If a consumer finds any of our distributed media, the consumer is asked during the download process to choose the license agreement type they desire. In this model the consumer can be given a choice:
For a small fee, the consumer can play the media for limited
period of time- For a larger fee, the consumer can play the media forever and transfer the media to another device other than a computer; and
- For opting in to a marketing program of an advertiser/sponsor, the consumer can acquire the content for free.
